The settlement of Ammoudara is located 6 km east of Agios Nikolaos, on the old road that connected Agios Nikolaos with Sitia and Ierapetra, and belongs to the community of Kritsa. The area has developed touristically and here you can find several options for hotels, rooms, taverns and restaurants. Above the sea is the picturesque church of Prophet Elias, popular for weddings and baptisms with a view of the beach.

In front of the coastal settlement there is a beautiful sandy beach with crystal blue waters, while a characteristic of the vegetation is the tall sedges next to the beach. It is ideal for families with small children as it has an eastern orientation and is protected from the northwestern winds. The sea temperature in some places is low, due to underwater freshwater springs. Because the beach is relatively small and may seem crowded, you can visit the larger beach of Almyros, where the feeling of crowds is less noticeable.
